- The Stopping Distance: While rolling along the adhesive-coated surface, friction occurs between the ball and the adhesive until the former stops completely.
How to Conduct the Test
- Preparation: Ensure that the inclined ramp and the industrial tack tester ball are properly cleaned before proceeding using a solvent such as Ethyl Acetate or Isopropyl Alcohol.
- Verify that the apparatus is well levelled using the built-in 3-axis spirit level to prevent the ball from going off track.
- Specimen Mounting: The adhesive tape or film is placed on a flat glass surface parallel to the track. Ensure that the adhesive side is facing upwards while pressing the two ends tightly.
- The Roll: The ball can be placed on the starting mechanism using the tweezers or the lint-free stick. Let go of the spring lever.
- Data collection: The distances will be measured using an engineer’s square and the built-in scale when the ball comes to a halt. The distance should be taken from where the ball touched the ground and measured to the middle of the stationary ball.
